Starting with Austria, we went to a ski resort just outside Salzburg. We stayed there for one week in December 2010, with the temperature hitting -20 degrees in the night time!
I had never been skiing before, and after my time in the resort, I don't think I'll ever go again...
Our view was slightly tainted with cranes and a building site, but the the beautiful snow-capped mountains overwhelmed me and I found myself singing 'The hills are alive with the sound of music' every time I opened the curtains in the morning.
We arrived there the week before Christmas, so last minute Christmas shopping was a must. 'Daniela' is a popular name in Austria, (unlike the English way of spelling my name; Daniella) so I found lots of personalised pens, bags and keyrings that I bought in bulk.
Cold chubba cheeks :]
The dreaded cabin lift :/
On our way up! Don't look down...
Hidden little waterfall
And once we reached the top
I hate skiing. After a 1 hour crash course, I was no closer to becoming a pro-beginner at skiing. After having to get off the ski lift, I didn't know how to stop, slamming into a little girl who was probably about 7 years old, sending her catapulting down the mountain. I felt so bad, and after being helped up by the little girl's father, I took my skis off, and ending up hiking down the mountain instead with the skis on my shoulder.
I won't be going on a ski trip by choice again any time soon, and especially won't go to a place that's colder than the place I came from. But at least it was an experience and I got to try out something that I had never done before!
We celebrated that night in a beautiful Italian seafood restaurant, al fresco, I ate my favourite pasta...
Linguine con le vongole! (Linguine with clams)
Blowing out the candle on the only cake they had in the restaurant!
Took time out to go and see the Vatican, and renew my faith.
Casually driving by the coliseum
My very own Captain Jack Sparrow
Fontana di Trevi, and yes, I made a wish, and yes, it came true
Rome, as expected, was beautiful, with exquisite food, stifling heat and lots of fun things to do. Even without doing much sunbathing, I got an immense tan and it really is quite romantic and relaxing.
I went to Tenerife in October 2011, just after starting back at university (which was very naughty to do). I never thought I'd ever go to Tenerife, but I actually had SO much fun there.
We stayed for one week, in a 5* resort in Los Cristianos. It was a glorious 28 degrees there, when London was 12 degrees, and it was the longest I'd ever been on an aeroplane journey. I've never travelled outside of Europe before, so a 5 hour plane ride was very long and draining. I can't even imagine spending 23 hours on a plane and going to a place like Australia for example! I admire those who have done!
As usual, the view from the hotel was spectacular,
And I spent an awful lot of time sunbathing on this holiday
and enjoyed one too many Pina Coladas
And woke up many a morning trying to conceal a painful hangover
The most enjoyable part of the holiday had to be JET-SKIING! Now this is one type of 'skiing' that I thoroughly loved! 3 hours on a jet ski with my beau on the Atlantic Ocean was an experience I can never forget.
Tenerife was so much fun. We also went to the biggest water park in Europe called Siam Park, but I couldn't take my camera with me, as I was flying down water slides and jumping into pools.
I'd LOVE to go again with all my girls!!
